Sitting at home on your couch no one can hear you scream

User Rating: 7 | Dead Space: Extraction WII
Dead Space Extraction is a spin-off from Dead Space for the Playstation 3. It was especially designed for the Wii. It's an on-rail shooter which enables for some really nice graphics.
In order to promote the original Dead Space EA had an animated movie made. I enjoyed it very much and this was the reason i got a copy of Dead Space Extraction. By the way i also really like the animated movie for Dante's Inferno, another EA game. If i had a playstation 3 i would probably get this game as well, but i don't so that leaves me with Dead Space Extraction for the Wii.
The game is a bit of a favourite amongst game reviewers. It was nominated for a number of categories for the gamespot 2009 awards and also a lot of reviewers have said they liked this game more then Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, which is another on-rail shooter for the Wii released in the fall of 2009.
I have played them both and i can honestly say: Darkside Chronicles is a whole lot better.
But Dead Space extraction didn' t sell well and you can find a copy of it for 20 euro's. When you are done with Darkside Chronicles, it does deliver a atmospheric story-driven horror adventure in space which you can enjoy with a friend, because you can play the entire game in co-op.
It takes some time to "get into" the game, but after the first couple of levels you begin to understand the story and it's characters. I guess that's the best thing about this game, you don't know who will survive and who doesn't.
You make your way somewhere in outer space on the surface of an unknown planet and, as things go horribly wrong, you have to try and escape to the mothership. Once there you discover the horror is far from over.
Though you are not free to move around by yourself, the game's nice visuals do reallly make you feel like being in outer space, especially when entering zero-gravity areas. The monsters look creepy and they make terrifying noises. There are many weapons you can select, maybe a couple too much, since not all of them are useful. The flamethrower is a lot of fun though.
There are a couple of level-bosses, but they can be a bit of a bore since you have to have enough of the right ammo and weapons and you'll have to know what to do. Otherwise you die and the boss-fight starts again, and again, and again...
The game tries hard to pull you into it. You'll see your character in mirrors and stuff, but it only works sometimes. At times you'll have to sit through long uninteresting dialogues and a lot of the time you just feel like you are sitting at home on your couch pointing a wii-mote at you television.
No one will hear you scream.
