Day of Defeat: Source

I never played the first retail version, or the mod. But I'm glad I played Source. It's a great deal, for only $10, or $30 in a package with Counter-Strike:Source, and Half-Life 2: DeathMatch, I bought it in the package.
I started out on steam with only the orange box, from amazon. I got tired of those games after a while and decided to venture into the world of digital games.
At first I thought it was another cheap World War shooter. No iron sights, limited amount of maps, multi-player only. But I started to play a little more and immediately fell in love with it.
The visuals are very nice for an older game, around 5 years now (made in 2005), the physics are very cool. You can shoot at cans and they fly and bounce off things, push furniture in front of doors to block them, and watch helmets fly off heads, and bodys get launched accros maps.
The sounds are good too, though I know some people have deleted some of the sound files, such as the end of round and the the main menu music. But, I really don't mind. You can hear people walk around you and bullets hit walls.
There are only two modes in DOD:S, one is a conquest style mode, where you try to capture flags to win. And another is similar to a Counter-Strike mode where you either have to plant the bomb, or try to stop/defuse them.
Not many maps come with the game but there are hundreds of files you can download, I reccomend this site, Filefront half-life files, it is trusted and has many options.
The overall concept is a team-based WW2 FPS, but it is different from Counter-Strike because one player can't dominate the map, and teamwork comes into play.
Overall I give Day of Defeat:Source a 8.9
