The ottsel's first solo adventure on the PlayStation Portable couldn't be any better!

User Rating: 9.5 | Daxter PSP
For those who are fans of successful "Jak and Daxter" series, you must at least play this new way of play on the PlayStation Portable. Daxter is now alone, trying to rescue Jak and eventually stirs into a big adventure all the while stopping an infestation against Haven City...

Story: 8.5 (I like the story, but it isn't for everyone)
Graphics: 9 (Wonderful visuals on the PlayStation Portable)
Music: 7 (The majority of the game has similar music, but it's tolerable)
Controls: 8.5 (The controls can be awkward at certain moments, but otherwise the controls are great)
Sound: 9 (The voice work is top-notch and also at times humorous, and the fictional elements are nice as well in this title)

The story is similar to a prequel to "Jak II", right before Jak and Daxter enter Haven City, Jak is quickly kidnapped by the Krimson Guard and Daxter escapes. Almost two years later Daxter has some of the needs required to "survive" Haven City, while trying to find a way to save his best friend Jak from his eventual two years of "Dark Eco" experimentation. The way Daxter starts out seems kind of strange at least, but throughout the story is slowly makes sense, it isn't an outstanding story, but it's good enough to measure up to console games (and the Jak and Daxter games themselves).

The game-play is very fun and entertaining, and is a blast to play on the PSP. The controls are very fluid like the Jak and Daxter series, they are also different, while this is just a spin-off in the series, it is nice to see a change in direction, not revolving around lethal weapons but something more meaningful and at times very creative. Instead of weapons there is bug spray, and a fly swatter, it is quite neat. Other than the single player, the developers actually made a multiplayer "bug fight" game, which is the combat drive is very similar to an rpg element, while upgrading and collection is involved by collection bugs, attacks and upgrades throughout Haven city, they didn't need to add that game in, but it's fun nonetheless.

In review, this is a great game, and it stands out as one of the greatest games on the PSP, and I highly recommend playing this game, for fans of the series, they might be turned off by the change in game-play, but will find something really enjoyable in this title, and those new to the game will be extremely confused, but will probably find something worth playing for.
