It was released in the far 1992 but remains a great game up to now!!!
In Darklands the "main" story is a loose one triggered randomly when asking the proper questions or after certain actions in specific events such as capturing a witch or defeating sinister villages who worship Satan.If you manage to be on certain dates mentioned in the proper place you'll progress with that one.
But the main advantage of Darklands was it's open world character.You begin moving from city to city doing missions randomly generated and through the course of this journey you may encounter all sorts of creatures of the medieval mythology such as gargoyles,hellhounds etc. and get an aspect of the social and political structure of that times.This means to be prepared to face villains such as robber-knights, annoying alchemists, tax-collectors etc. and work for Dukes,wealthy merchants,bankers and other similar people.
Another amazing thing is that Darklands is easily playable even now.Of course graphics and sound are really old and you need to keep your own notes of your deeds but nevertheless Darklands is still playable and recommended for anyone who likes games with some depth and not just flashy graphics.
I left for the end of the review the start of the game:Darklands has one of the most original character creation systems i've ever seen.You choose your background and then your working career to determine your stats and your skills.The many skills by the way are also quite original and adjusted to the medieval environment of D.
PS Some reviews call for a sequel or a remake.I agree 1000%%%!
