Fantastic conclusion to a well established franchise

User Rating: 10 | Dark Souls III (Day One Edition) PS4

Dark Souls 3 takes you to new places that are vast and a joy to explore, as well as a few revisits to previously explored areas from past games. This is one of the game's main strengths, as it does not just reuse assets lazily, every re-occurring area has a very new feeling to it, unique enemies, and enhances your experience with what was there before. Playing out as a direct sequel to Dark Souls, it has a well defined goal at the beginning, but no hand holding here! Goal areas are not right next to each other, instead, there are multiple unique areas between each main boss. If you are worried there will not be enough bosses, don't be. Bosses are plentiful and harder than ever. Strategies for winning these fights are very diverse, butt-poking is not a viable build for bosses in Dark Souls 3. Items and multitudes of weapons are back, and each weapon has a special ability, much like boss weapons from previous games. Every build feels viable, and while some builds do give the game an easier feel, the difference is not enough to say the game is unbalanced. Invading is much easier in this game, with an unlimited invading item early on, however invading is much more difficult now that co-op is easier to use. It is not uncommon to be against 3 players when invading. Overall, this game has heart, and is not unsimilar from a drill sergeant: tough, but loveable deep down.
