Dark Sector doesn't live up it's concept

The multipurpose razor disc glaive that main character Hayden yields in Dark Sector should be enough to give the game a kick ass action appeal. It has the ability to cut through necks and waists as well as pick up electricity, fire and ice to utilize on enemies and environments alike. The issue is that it is too often used against hordes of annoying enemies or to solve braindead elemental puzzles.

When pitted against human opponents, the gun and glaive action plays out pretty well. It plays like a fine cover based shooter with the bonus glaive tossing option. However, a greater portion of the game takes place against bothersome unarmed mutant enemies that attack in waves. Pest control isn't fun, glaive or no glaive.

Dark Sector is a game that shot itself in the foot by it's design direction. It has the pieces to be a consistently good action game, and it is also graphically impressive when you can actually see it. However, the reality is a game that spends too much time in the dark exterminating no thrills monsters.
