Like many people, I had basically discarded the concept of dance games, after DDR XXIII (or whatever we are up to) came out. In the end, those games were really just rhythm games that you either tapped controller buttons to, or tapped giant controller buttons with your feet - not really dancing. This one's DIFFERENT.

If you have not seen the kinect in action, it might be hard to really visualize how effective this game can be, but in a nutshell, it tracks your dancing - for real! Just the novelty of actually moving, and having that accurately control your moves, is amazing. The fact that you end up trying 'ridiculous' dance moves you'd never try in real life is even more amazing. As a gamer in my early 40's, I have never even seen most of those dance moves... but they are deceptively fun. You'll be simultaneously embarassed and hilariously amused as you try moves like "Shy Taffy" and "Head Rush". The game tracks your body quite accurately, and I make this conclusion because it is actually somewhat forgiving (rather than penalizing). It has a wide range of tunes (some less than a year old, others almost as old as me), and choreographs them well... watching the moves during "Brick House" by the Commodores instantly screams Motown.

In addition to being fun, it gives you a nice, moderate level of activity (not too strenuous, but you will get warm playing it). Surprisingly, I don't mind making a fool of myself in front of friends and family, and more surprisingly, they don't mind doing the same. I might even practice some up, so at next year's company XMas party (after a few), I can really test out my self-confidence (mmmm, or maybe not....)

Really, if you like music and have even the remotest interest in trying out some dance moves, get this game!
