As chaotic as the city in which it takes place

User Rating: 6 | Cyberpunk 2077 PC

I want to mention that the reason for my rating is a mix of personal gaming preferences with actual criticism of the game, so I guess its better I start with aspects of the game that could definitely get more attention and I will finish with the more personal side of the review.

Cyberpunk is a great achievement when it comes to graphics as well as environment and NPC behavior and its concept is probably one of its strongest points, I actually believe this was the main reason it got so much hype until its release. The idea of a not so distant society where mankind and machines become the same is not something new per say, but its probably underexplored and for sure a fantastic set up for a video game, with that being said, the game wasted a lot of its potential.

For starters I played the PC version with hardware that withstands running the game with high specs so I didn't experience much of the infamous bugs for which the game was bashed, still here's my take:
The gameplay feels very stiff and not at all fluid, the fact that we play first person in this open world game feels very restrictive and it takes a lot of the experience of enjoying Night City, this was one of the major problems for me.
Also, the city is chaotic, I know this is the purpose, but the fact that you are constantly having this adrenaline like environment in a city where everything is happening with not much consequences (rare occasions where police got me or was even present) it takes the fun out of it, the type of fun you have in other sandbox games. I had absolutely no interest in exploring the city, it feels very repetitive, with the alleys and the buildings and random chaotic events happening all around you, I think in short the lack of logic on the world you are living in and the assumption that pretty much everyone can be a criminal and getting away with it, for me it made be not be invested fully in the game.

The main story has some fun parts and it's kind of interesting, although there are too much talk, there are several parts where you are forced to dialogue, usually I don't have a problem with it but in Cyberpunk it drags, a lot...
As a plot it keeps its interest, and I was engaged to see how it panned out, and this is where my personal preferences kick in...
I see the fun on having dialogue that might affect the game ending, I have to be honest I am not the biggest fan of this type of games, I do prefer when writers decide on how the narrative ends, so this is entirely on me and my personal taste - however taking aside this for a while and assuming I was invested in the decision making process, this is the first time I see a game where the side quests actually influence the main story (since some of the endings unlock the possible finales) and this for me was awful. I am usually a player who likes to have that 100% mark on RPGs, but since this one wasn't engaging for me I wanted to complete at least the main story, and then for the first time seeing that the side quests would've influenced it, on a game I didn't like, well that wasn't a good feeling...

Huge potential and expectations weren't matched for me..
