A JRPG with lots of potential that falls short.

When Cross Edge was announced for an American release, I was very excited. Characters from Disgaea, Darkstalkers, Ar Tonelico and more in the same game sounded like a great idea. It is a great idea, but the game is a disappointment.
Just from watching the English trailer, one can infer that for the most part, the voice acting is bad. In fact, all the sounds are bad. Sound effects are few and far between, each one of them having poor quality. You would think this was a 1920's radio program if all you did was listen to it. Not only that, but a large portion of the game isn't dubbed in English. By switching over to the Japanese voices many scenes that had no sound suddenly do! Obviously, not a lot of money was spent on this part of the game.
The fighting system of Cross Edge is quite good, unfortunately, most players probably won't make it to the epic boss battles. Why? Instead of unlocking the next event after completing the last one, players are forced to walk around the world map scanning for souls and mini sub-events. This means that it could take two minutes or two hours for the next event to pop up on the map. After finishing the event (which never manages to last more than ten minutes) the whole process starts over again. Many players (including me) will probably pop this game out of the Playstation and let it collect dust while they play something more entertaining.
In the end, Cross Edge is a good idea brought down by terrible design choices. My advice, if you want to play as characters from Disgaea, Darkstalkers and more, play the games they're originally from. They're cheaper and much better than the disappointment that is Cross Edge.
