Every video game company should have a great platforming series, and Sony had Crash.

Nintendo started out the trend with Super Mario, and Sega hit it big with Sonic the Hedgehog. Sony was still very young in the video game world in 1996, but with Crash Bandicoot they found their (temperary) mascot.

The great thing about Crash is that it was action and fun throughout the game. Unlike a full 3D world to explore, a la Super Mario 64, you are sent from level to level and never have to get lost or lose time traveling between levels.

Another killer aspect of Crash Bandicoot is how it switches from 3D to 2D randomly from level to level, so it keeps things fresh troughout the game. You'll have levels were the camera is behind Crash and you have to make it to the end with good timing and jumping. Then there are levels where it is a 2D sidescroller that plays a lot like Donkey Kong Country. There a few levels with odd camera positions like over the top view and in front of Crash as a boulder chases him so he runs towards the screen.

Like I said before, this game is all about timing your jumps and using jumping skills to jump certain distances and ways. Crash can also spin to knock out some enemies.

The graphics are superb, no doubt about it. Everything looking smooth, no blockiness are pixelation. The jungle levels are vibrant with colors, including lots leaves, trees, flowers, totem poles and huts. Then there are ancient ruins, and factory levls which also look stunning. The Music is great also, and fits the mood of the game perfectly.

Bossfights in this game are good but there are not many and they aren't very memorable, but they fit the game and some are indeed pretty fun, my favorite being the final boss.

The only downfall of this game is it's legnth, which is 28 levels I believe. You'll get through it fairly quick and will want more in the end (though there are sequels). But there are gems to collect by perfectly completing the game and a couple secret levels to unlock. This should hold anyone who enjoyed the game down for a while.

So personally I believe that this game is just plain fun and awesome. Thumbs up to Naughty Dog for all the fun I had with this title. Any platformer fan should love Crash Bandicoot and I'm stoked to play the sequels. Peace out.
