Not very deep, but still fun.

User Rating: 7 | Crash Bandicoot (Platinum) PS
Though, in its day, graphically pleasing, despite Sony's pleas, Crash really was a mascot attempt, albeit one that worked, though not to the same scale perhaps, as Mario, Masterchief or Lara Croft. Upon scratching tis shiny surface a good game is unearthed, but nothing more, frankly it's not all its cracked up to be.

The graphics were great for its day, well mainly because they had that whole 3D thing going on. But that cannot excuse the fact that the gameplay, though fast paced and stimulating, is rather linear. The player steers Crash a long the level, jumping, spinning into enemies and fruit collecting for extra lives. One could argue that at core that is the premise for most platform games and one would be right, but other 3D platformers are given more flesh. The environments are 3D and fully explorable, and there is a little more to be collected, done or revisited. There is a plot, and there are characters yet they are not deemed important enough to be paid an real attention, and in all honesty graphics a true classic does not make, and if the gameplay is only just above average then at least give the game an interesting premise and central protagonist rather than a bandicoot on acid.

Overall good game, nice environments and graphics, nice accompanying music, ok gameplay, could have been better.
