In 1996, Naughty Dog released one of the most influential games on the Sony Playstation. This game took many players by storm, matching even Nintendo's mascot: Mario. Now Naughty Dog is ready to take the Crash Bandicoot series even further with Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. How does this game measure up the the original? Well, let's find out.

After his crushing defeat at the hands of Crash Bandicoot, Cortex is seen plummeting towards Earth at a huge velocity. After crashing and landing, the sinister doctor fins himself inside of a deep dark cave surrounded by Power Crystals. Curious about there energy, Cortex decides to take the Crystal back to the Space Station to be studied and examined. Dr. N. GIn, Cortex's newest assistant, informs Cortex that he must collect all 25 Crystals to fully harness their power. Cortex knew that there is only one man (or marsupial) for the job: Crash Bandicoot. Cortex thens transports Crash to his Space Station and tells Crash that he wants to help save the world and that the 13 planets of the Solar will align to create a power strong enough to rip Earth apart and that the only thing that will stop it is the power of the Crystals. But has Cortex really learned his lesson, or is this just another one of his diabolical schemes?

Crash Bandicoot 2 plays very similar to its predecessor. Just like in the original, you can jump and spin to defeat enemies. However, there are a few added moves to Crash's arsenal. Crash can now slide and belly flop to defeat enemies. He can also squat down and crawl to get through tight areas and spaces. The objective of this game is to not only make it through the level safely, but you must also collect each Crystal from the stage. Also, you can play the stages in any order that you choose. There are also Gems that the player must collect if they want the true ending to the game. The difficulty of the game has been toned done, which is either good or bad depending on how you look at it. This game is nowhere near as hard as the original Crash Bandicoot game (which may please some players).

Crash Bandicoot 2 is a great sequel to the Crash Bandicoot series and if you liked the first game, then you will absolutely love the second game.
