Costume Quest is a very well done and fun title

The folks at Double Fine make good games. They may not blow you away with deep graphics and multi player immersion but the games they do put out are unique and fun.

Costume Quest follows Reynold and his sister Wren on an Halloween adventure trick or treating in their new neighborhood they have just moved into before one of the siblings is abducted by Grubbins and the other is left forced to unravel the seedy nefarious plans as to why. But most importantly to defeat them!

What makes Costume Quest enjoyable is the playful dialog the characters have with one another. It doesn't take itself that seriously and it's those things that makes the game whimsical. The plot is deeply rooted in the mind of a young child and his/her huge imagination. The costumes acquired become characters themselves through battle sequences with various bad guys.

The game itself at the core is an explore/adventure with various grab and fetch missions with turned based battles against Halloween baddies interspersed thoughout. The game isn't very complex (even in the battle modes) but it has a lot of heart and character depth for anyone between the ages of 5 to 55.

The animation is very cute and expressive which is something I've noticed Double Fine is very good at conveying.

Costume Quest doesn't take very long to finish. I completed it over the course of a weekend and a day or two but that should not be a big factor for those questioning whether to buy it or not. The game is priced accordingly and is a very good budget title purchase.

Double Fine is a very good game developer and titles like Costume Quest and Stacking show that even budget titles can play in the same sandbox as the Halo and GTAs of the world.

Sometimes less can be more and Costume Quest hits that mark imaginatively.
