The basic gameplay is very traditional turn-based unit combat, but the art and game environment make for fun experience!

Commanders offers a really well-done turn-based unit-based military combat game. It's your traditional structure -- you build units, you move units using action points during each turn, and you can attack/defend using action points in each turn. You are given various goals through varying missions, each increasing in complexity/difficulty.

You're given lots of fun 1940s/1950s style military units, but done with a 1950's science-fiction flair -- your tanks look like a hybrid of a tank and a 1940's sedan, you also have infantry, giant 4-legged walker turrets, and a lot more.

The artwork, scenarios, music and overall style of the game are really what separates this game from others of the type. It's all done with a lightly humorous tone. The art is all 3d isometric, with a nice colored cell (cartoony, but still very well done and stylistic) look.

Despite the lite tone of the game, the strategy is very real, with decent computer AI, and online head-to-head play.

Again, nothing new here, but done with such love and detail that it's a great choice for your XBLA points.
