This fun, streamlined, easy to learn military strategy game offers a nice introduction to the challenges faced by the major powers during WW1. It covers a broad geographic area from Portugal to Iraq. Even though it considerably simplifies military combat/planning, research and diplomacy (the latter being the only weak part of the game), this strategic level game still manages to effectively convey the considerable challenge the major powers faced in preventing their respective countries from collapsing while trying to run an effective military campaign. The AI is quite competent and will give you a run for your money. My only two criticisms of the game are with the diplomacy segment and the price. Diplomacy played a critical role in WW1 and it is unfortunate that your one and only diplomatic "option" is to indirectly curry favor with other countries by winning battles. I also thought that the price being charged by Matrix Games for this game was a bit much given the fact that it is just a relatively simple hexagonal war game. Nonetheless, if you can overlook these two faults, it is definitely worth playing.
