A mostly factual review regarding the problems in Combat Arms.
What is it"
Combat Arms is a "Free to Play" first person shooter, that is published and run by Nexon. It is the most infamous, and famous, game in the free to Play shooter genre. It is widely regarded as, "Free To Play, Pay to Win.
Review:
GRAPHICS- Comparatively? Horrible. Nowadays, their are games that double Combat Arm's graphical quality. These graphics won't do much to stun you, and they won't exactly turn you away either. Overall, they just serve to give the game a bland, sort of annoying feel. This does, however, allow for slightly lower system requirements.
SOUND- Typical. Nothing special, and just as good or worse as any other F2P shooter.
COMMUNITY: Here is where the game falls the hardest. As far as I can tell, we have 4 types of people who like to play Combat Arms.
1. First slot belongs to the Payers as I like to call them. These are the people who will put hundreds of dollars into the game, and get all the best weapons and gear. They are normally who do best in a match, besides one of the later types. They are as much a blessing as a curse. A blessing because they provide the money to keep Nexon going, They are indeed a curse also, as new players have a hard time getting into the game, because of the amount of times they will die. This isn't the Payers fault, though.
2. Here we have the spammers. These people are the ones who don't really log into play, but to spam advertisements all over the chat boxes, in every menu, server and game. Annoying...
3. The worst of the worst, this slot belongs to hackers. Combat Arms has hundreds upon hundreds of these, and they really make the game suck. Combat Arm's hack shields are terrible, which means this is where hackers flock. Enjoy the god mode and instakills you will have to face if you play this game.
4. Here we have the free players. These are the people who like to play because it's fun, but don't want to spend money. They provide fodder for hackers, spammers, and Payers.
Overall Community: Absolutely terrible. You won't find a worse community. More or less everybody will be rude to you, and if you ever get more than 3 kills, they'll throw you out of the game, with "&*%$ HAAAAACCKKKEERRR" in the chat box. People in this game do their best to be complete and total jerks.
GAME PLAY:
So begins the most important section, right? Well, Combat Arms doesn't really deliver here either. The main reason for this is hackers, and rage kickers. Hackers hack, obviously, and ruin the game for everybody, while rage kickers just like to piss people off by kicking them out at the end of the game, when they happen to be mad at someone for killing them. Most of them are whiners. Also, Combat Arms is void of iron sights. This means that everything is spray, unless you buy a scope, which, it should be said, is very cheap. Little or no strategy is involved in this game, besides knowing how to jump, and use a shotgun at short range. This will happen to you over, and over, and over again. Even using a scope won't work. 90% of the time, their weapon is better than yours. The game does, though, feature a zombie mode, and a co-op mode. Co-op is good, no real complaints there. Zombies, on the other hand, isn't all that good. Basically, humans will camp in a corner as zombies rush at them, using glitches to get an advantage. Their are tons of glitches in Combat Arms. Not just that, they are very much so exploited.
Something should be said, though, for the games amount of guns. You have tons of guns to play with. But, in the Bursting-your-Bubble fashion, they are almost all purchasable only with real money. Those that aren't either suck, or can only be bought at high levels. On that note, Combat Arms does have a ranking system, but it's very standard, and doesn't need to be covered here.
As for game modes, Combat Arms has plenty, and they all work well. They may help keep you entertained more than I was. They include capture the flag, team deathmatch (Elimination), zombies etc... This isn't the problem. The problem is that you will never win any of these modes, because of the other players. Free players literally have no chance. The only way to go is to pay for it, which isn't wrong or discouraged.
CONCLUSION:
If you can get over the glitches, hackers, spammers, hackers, graphics, hackers, bad community, hackers, gameplay flaws, and the hackers, then this is the game for you. If not, then you may want to look elsewhere for a F2P shooter. A game that I personally could recommend because I like it, not because everybody likes it, but because I like it, would be Blacklight: Retribution. Best graphics of any F2P shooter, iron sights, no hackers as of yet, and enough maps and game modes to keep you going, Blacklight probably is the best. That is , IN MY OPINION!!!
