Slick look combined with a overall better visuals and sound than its SEGA origins.

This is an absolutely underrated game. This version is superior to both the Master System and Genesis versions and is on par visually (maybe more so) with the Super Nintendo version as well. Its an excellent port of an equally great arcade game made initially by Sega. Gameplay is quite simple, you have several different colored jewels that match in rows of 3, 6, 9, 5, and many other combinations or rows. Simply build up combo's and try to survive as the speed of the jewels falling down steadily increases. It is nothing like Tetris and it is neither a clone nor entirely original in its concept, but its entertaining, challenging, and a marvelously well-preserved game. The color palette of the PC engine (turbografx in the USA) is used very well and truly gives "Columns" a very beautiful aesthetic. Of course I'm sure this is why it drew in players due to the themes and colors alone. Not since Columns 97' have I seen a prettier looking puzzle game.
