A solid story and puzzles that feel just right

User Rating: 8.5 | Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller Episode 1 - The Hangman PC
I came across Cognition while searching for new story driven games. After watching the trailer, I was interested in trying this game out. I am glad I did.

It starts with our protagonist investigating a case that involves someone very close to her. Right off the bat, the player is faced with a series of puzzle solving and a very well done action segment to set the mood for the rest of the story.

The visuals in this game are gorgeous, giving an art inspired graphics style. The lighting is beautiful as is the character expressions and body movements. This is retained throughout all characters.

The music is especially nicely done, fitting the mood for each scene the player encounters. All sound effects are also very well done. The voice acting is well done for most characters; no one is annoying to listen to.

The puzzles were all well done. Nothing seemed too hard, but you are forced to use your brain a bit. The twist in gameplay is in the title "Cognition". The protagonist has a supernatural ability to see into the past (and questionably into the future) by interacting with certain items - this is explained further in the game. By using this "sense" the player is able to piece together crime scenes and past events to move forward with the story.

The story is very well done, and sets the mood for further chapters. The ending will shock you.

This is a solid adventure game that any fan of the genre will enjoy. I am looking forward to the next installment.
