Jerkier controls hinder this NES port from achieving that sheer perfection.

Super Mario Bros. for GBA is the classical platformer from 80’s.

If you have ever played a Mario game or hacked that original NES title back in the 80’s, then you already know how the story goes. Evil Bowser captures princess Peach and it’s up to Mario to save him. His quest consists of eight different worlds with each having three stages and a castle in the end.

Graphics are colorful, but not great by any means. It didn’t much matter then and it does not matter now, because the creativity of the levels is totally awesome. Sound is very simplistic bleeps and bloops, but still it has one the most memorable video game music ever.

Gameplay is mostly jumping and avoiding enemies, punching bricks and collecting coins. I don’t know why, but for some reason the controls are much more jerkier than they were in the original game.

It can clearly be seen, that already in the late 80’s Nintendo knew how to add the game’s replay value: by adding hidden bonus extras and there are a lot of those in this original Super Mario Bros.

This is a great way to take a nostalgic trip back to childhood or just to check out a big part of video game history. Unfortunately the controls hinder the experience from achieving that sheer perfection as it was 20 years ago.
