Great little MMO for the Super Hero Lover, and even someone who wants to play an MMO casually.

I really like games the know what they are and make no qualms. I, a respectful reviewer of games, see when this is so and I commend the developers for sticking to their guns because they believe wholeheartedly that what they did is best (not necessarily perfect but it works for what it is meant to be).

CoX is a great example of this as it's not really your average Hardcore Gamer MMO but it still has the appeal to make us keep coming back when we feel like being as awesome as we feel.

Graphics: I dont know if anyone agrees with me on this but I think the graphics in this game are superb. I do hear alot of people complain about lagging (Im speaking of framerate at the moment) but I dont have these issues and my video card is dying on me so... they need to turn down their settings or something I dont know but I dont have this problem.

Connectivity: I feel this is important to mention as the developers make no comments about this ever (although they do "attempt" to fix it). When new stuff is released in this game all the hardcores who left come back for a very short amount of time ot check out whats new. This is the worst time to play, however, because this network cannot handle alot of people in one area (and one of the greatest ideas to come forth in this game, the invasion stuff, involves tons of people in one area duking it out with aliens) and alot of times I get disconnected when the server is heavily populated. As a matter of fact I get disconnected alot during peak hours and its not a huge problem but its worth noting.

Sound: Like all MMOs, the music is annoying and repetitive. I really wish DEVs for MMOs would get a clue and invest in putting a MP3 player or some form of music player into the game. One that allows you to see what you rlistening to and change it at will as well as search your drive for other music etc etc. Built in Music Match Jukebox as it were (just an example Im not saying put that into the game). I know modders some MMOs that allow modding have attempted this (some might have succeeded too, they are tenacious) but Devs never ever add this support and it's a shame. Because it would rock. There is no music you can put in an MMO (a game you will inherently play over and over for sometimes years) that you wont get bored with after some time. I dont think its possible (altho EQ2 is trying out a cool system for their which Im enjoying). I personally think it would be easier on them if they just put in a Music Player of some kind. Sound Effects in this, in my humble opinoin, are great though. They could be better and some sounds seem old fashioned (for instance the Assault Rifles sounds dont really sound like any gun Ive fired... ever. They sound more like something from Sega Genesis). Alot of sounds are downplayed and seem a little hokey to me, but I am being a little bit to critical here. They arent terrible by any means and do entirely make the game as much fun as it is.

Overall "Gameplay"/ Content: For MMOs I'm going to put content here and review that. I think thats something anyone looking for a MMO cares about. This game does have tons of content. I wont lie. The really sad thing, though, is because they dont put out pay Expansions ( I assume anyway) everything is rehashed. Anytime they release something "new" while the bad guys are new, they attack you with Archetypes you already know (no surprises when you fight) and the maps are always rehashed over and over. You never see anything new. So, point is once you've seen all the map types you will get bored of them. They really are just different versions of the same map over and over. This isnt to say these maps arent fun, I love the outdoor maps alot (myself, some people hate them) and I think they are all very well done. I do give them props for how they have brought all this together into a cohesive whole to make such an enjoyable experience.

The great thing about this game is the creativity this game allows you to have with your toons. If nothing else you will always have fun just making a new toon. This game really does make Altaholics out of people because the Character Creater in this game is still (even today) the best in the MMO industry and still has not been topped (it hasnt even been touched although SWG did have a great one too back in the day).

Not only that but the way they do a no need for inventory and gear UI really makes it more fun because you can focus on just being as awesome as you want to be without having to find that special gear that makes you look like everyone else. One thing this game has going for it is the fact that I have never seen any toon that looks like anyone else (except illegal omage toons, from the uncreative people) and that in itself is a spectacular accomplishment.

The player base in this game is also unique. I'd say roughly 85-90% of the players in this game are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. There is a very small few elitists in this game so watch out but they dont ruin the game nor the gameplay and generally if you dont let them get to you they wont ruin your fun. Their really is no room in this game for elitists anyway because the gameplay is fairly simple ot understand and master and the most thought you have to put into it is where you want to allocate your enhancements and how. (Which if you decide to go to 50 will require alot of thought).

There's alot more I can say about this game, both good and bad but I think I've said what needs to be said. This game is great, both for casual and hardcore players just because this game is fun. Not alot of MMOs are fun and in that respect this game stands out. If your hardcore though, you may not play this long, there's not much to this game and eventually even if you dont do everything with hardcore play you will get bored which sucks because this game is so fun to play. You will keep coming back, though, at least if you enjoyed it you will.
