A huge letdown - I hoped that in 2012 they had fixed the very annoying bugs that make the game much less fun to play than it could be, but all they did was add new bugs! The new building models they added to the game are glitchy and can't be connected to roads. The loading screen takes 3x as long for me as in 2011, but I can't see why. I would say that I'm switching back to Cities XL 2011, but I'm just frustrated with this franchise. While the graphics are better than in Sim City 4, Sim City is still the best game in the genre (I hope that they stop joking around with the Sims and make a new Sim City). I would also recommend Cities in Motion instead of Cities XL, but it has problems of its own. Though my computer can run most games fine, Cities in Motion runs at about 3 FPS.
Be very careful before investing in new games in this genre. The relative quality we saw in earlier games is gone.
