Most complex, if not the best storyline for a video game ever.

The movie world has Back to the Future, for it's mainstream story on time travel. The gaming world has Chrono Trigger. If a storyline is a main importance for you to enjoy a game, than Chrono Trigger is for you. The storyline may confuse at times, but always seems to wrap up at the end of segments. You start the game as a teen, with no certain story, or any kind of power. A festival is going on in town and since there isn't much else to do you go. A friend of yours has a time travel machine...and that's where the true story begins. I dont want to give anything away past this, but let's say something goes wrong and the fabric of time is in your hands. Chrono Trigger has a rather unique battle system compared with RPGs before it and is holds it's own in the unique department with some games today. The system is turned based, and has a meter that rises to show when it is your turn to make a move. Past this it gets rather interesting, you can move your characters in certain formations. The biggest aspect of fighting will be your special attacks, that you can fuse with other characters special attacks to make more powerful attacks. What is so brillaint about the fusing of attacks, is that there are so many of them, and discovering them is fun in it's own right. But again what makes this game stand out is it's brillaint story. Chrono Trigger is a good looking game, not great but good. The variety of different of lands is very high. All of the lands have their own landscape and feel to them. The characters are not terribly original, and looks alot like stereotypes of other characters. The animations are a department that the game really exceeds at. For all those special attacks, there is a different, brillaint animation behind it. The Chrono Trigger has a great soundtrack. The clock ticking at the very turning on of the game is classic. For every different land you visit, there seems to be a good song to fit with it. The sounds effects dont stand out, but the swords sound like swords, and so on. If you haven't played Chrono Trigger yet, do yourself a favor and get ahold of it somehow. All RPGs should look to this one and know that a storyline is what is needed to hold people over for the game. Easily one of the top 5 RPGs of all time
