Metal Gear Chicken!!!

User Rating: 7.5 | Chicken Run PS
Based on the movie with the same name, Chicken Run on the Sony Playstation is a stealth game, similar to Konami's blockbuster "Metal Gear Solid". While the game isn't as good as MGS, it's still a satisfying experience.

If you have seen the movie, you will understand what to do in this game right away. The chickens are trying to escape from the farm they're being held in, while the owners of the farm are trying to make chicken-pie of them. Like any licence-game, there's movie clips from the actual movie in the game, but the developers have also managed to recreate the feeling from the movie by making a fantastic detailing of the environments.

The game consists of 3 acts. In each act you will have to make daring escape attempts until you will finally manage to escape completely from the farm at the end of the game. Until then, you must collect stuff laying around the farm to build equipment you need to make the escape attempts. For example, in order to build the wire-cutters, you need to collect both the old butter knife and the broken pair of scissors and then bring them to a specific hut to build them into a pair of wire-cutters.

So far, everything sound like a piece of cake, but there's of course the dog's and Mr and Mrs Tweedy (the owners of the farm) who are doing everything in the power to stop you from completing your objectives. If they catch you snooping around the farm, they will take one of your items away. Even though it might be annoying going backtrack to get something again, this is a very smart way dealing with the extra tries, since you can always go back and collect it again.

When you fit together all the pieces you need to make an escape attempt, a mini game will start. After each escape, you will be awarded with a medal depending on how many chickens you rescued.

That was the good things about Chicken Run. Now for the bad things: Unfortunately, the camera can sometimes be limited, which sometimes makes it hard to see what's around you. Another thing that is a little disappointing is that the game is so short, that you can probably beat it in just a few hours and there is really no point of playing the mini games again, other than trying to get a better medal.

Gamespot was to harsh on this game when they reviewed it. It's not a perfect game, but it still doesn't deserve a 5.3 of of 10! When I started playing this game I expected to be entertained, and i was entertained!
