Fun, social with XBL and a great port of the classic boardgame

I love and still play Settlers of Catan (SOC) and its expansions in boardgame form. This is a wonderful and easy to play console version of that classic. Does it take a bit of time to get all the controls down? Yes, but the ones you use most often are easy to operate and navigate through.

The colors are bright and true to form, the AI gets nice and stingy when you rachet up to Medium difficulty and you start cursing die rolls and other players just like the real thing. Add in real friends or others (new friends) into the mix and you have a game every bit as enjoyable as the boardgame, without the fear of spilling something on the cards or game board. The use of the Xbox controller and joysticks is brilliant. I have played the downloadable version from MS and it was not as well integrated with the mouse and it was in 2D. The 3D aspect of this game really set it off and make it special. The only other thing they could have done is make each tile 3D as well, but that would produce other issues, like obstructed tiles.

Once I learned how to turn the board to see areas that were covered by cards or other graphics, my only pet peeve on this game went away.

If you enjoy SOC in boardgame form, you will enjoy this version as well. If your friends have moved out of state, yet have a XBL account, like mine do, this is a great way to get them back together at a very affordable price.
