The first of series on ps2

User Rating: 7.5 | Castlevania PS2
Considering that the famous castle of the vampire plot to allegedly reappears every 100 years, Konami has even had to travel to the future to fit the new games. But despite a game for Game Boy has allegedly invented the origins of the Belmont clan, the first game of the series for the PlayStation 2 is a steamroller in "Castlevania Legends" to explain how the family of Simon got the magic whip (now alchemical ) and its enmity with the beings of the night began.
Once armed with your gun, Leon Belmont enters the dreaded castle in order to save his bride. The first differences are soon obvious: the crossover starts with the ability to double jump, and the five main parts of the fortress began immediately opened for exploration.
Not only that, but the old power-ups that allowed new powers to access areas unattainable became extinct ... and were not alone - Leon does not gain levels as other Belmont. His energy and other attributes may be increased only with a finite number of hidden items. According to the game's creator, the idea was not to facilitate both the life of the player, who after winning many levels became too powerful and ended with the grace of the game.
The changes are just part of a whole new concept for the series. Each of the five "phases" (all readily available) are almost entirely linear, divided into rooms that only open after all the monsters inside of them are dead. And instead of having just a single stroke pattern, the whip can now be used for a number of different combos (acquired gradually, in a remnant of the old system of experience). As each blow of the series leaves the character with no movement or access to the defensive maneuver planning is again an important part of fighting system.
The sum of these innovations, for all intents and purposes, is a return to the formula of the first games of the series in a very classical style. There are still some hidden rooms, whose secrets are only revealed with some insight, but these are few and uncommon. The whole castle is relatively small and almost totally flat, and the game can be completed in less than ten hours with ease. One of the most serious problems that go over the layout is that many rooms almost identical to arrive somewhere becomes a tedious process even more, despite the small area. Ironically, the game has earned an excellent new tool to mark points of interest on the map.
Although the rooms overly repetitive, the level of detail in each environment is excellent, and mounted with an enviable art direction. The theme of the 11th century is taken to extremes, and mixed with profanity vampire in order to create an excellent atmosphere. To accompany this soundtrack is a typical series, which mixes modern and classic songs that seem to fit perfectly to every situation.
But not everywhere technique was so successful in the jump to 3D. The Konami team had the good sense to use camera presets for each room - not only giving a more dramatic for each environment, but also avoiding the most common problems of the third dimension in games virtually "planned" the halls ( is as if the majority did not have one of the walls). But in some cases - and what's worse, usually the heads - the camera makes the most dangerous enemies outside their field of vision ... but no less deadly.
