Considering how repetitive games have been for the last 15 years (2017), Castlevania COD can be considered a forefather of the current derivative titles.
It's a 3D dungeon crawler with jump controls, hackn'slash elements and a RPG level-up system.
The most interesting part of the game is comprised by the familiars, which return from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PSOne (a classic every videogamer must try). The can be collected and upgraded like PokeDigiSkyland-mons and offer a variety of status upgrades and abilities.
I remember the combat to be adequate and the characters interesting but the crawling part tiresome.
