Wild West fps is back and it is AWESOME.

After that disappointing Cartel game that I didn't play, Ubisoft decided to make the next game in the Juarez series as a dlc content. And what do you know, it's the best decision they made. In fact I think Bound in Blood should have been a dlc game that's only $17, but enough of pricing.

The gameplay is like a linear Farcry 3 in which you level up and access new abilities by killing a lot of enemies in style, with Bound in Blood shooting mechanic except you can't lean out of cover like that game. Rack up more combo to get more xp. I would say the combat is smooth and slick in that shooting enemy feels oh so satisfying. Bullets fly through the battlefield if you hit bullet time and you can blast enemies to smithereens with various weapons, but most of the time you'll be using the revolvers than the rifles and shotguns. There's this meter on the top right corner of the screen that functions as a last stand mechanic where you have to dodge an incoming bullet or else you die, and it's a pretty neat feature that I would like to see in other fps games. There's also the usual duel minigame with each of the game's bosses, and it's pretty clumsy and hard to control because the duel needs you to control both your arm to grab your revolver while also needing to aim to your enemy. It's hard at first but once you get used to it it's pretty simple.

The game itself is really narrative based because it follows the narration of the main character, and sometimes it can get pretty funny when he suddenly explains that a mission didn't turn out the way it is. Running gags with Apaches and objects appear out of nowhere caught me off guard and it's a clever mechanic. The story of the game is really interesting too because the main character tells this great journey of him meeting various US outlaws like the Sundance Kid along with other members of the Wild Bunch, Billy the Kid and Jesse James and all the time I was wondering if his story is true or false, so it's not predictable at all in my opinion. You can collect various hidden collectibles that unlocks various details of the legendary characters you meet in the game with locations of their most famous crimes. It even has a nice callback and connections to the previous Call of Juarez games so it definitely earn the Call of Juarez title.

The music is excellent as it combines somber music with badass wild west rock that keeps my blood pumping while shooting at various enemies. Voice acting of the characters are well done too, and the sounds of explosives and guns are all accurately representing the great wild west. One problem though is that sometimes there's a static loud bzzzzzt sound out of nowhere that interrupts the game, and the only way to stop it is to progress to the next part of the mission or die. It happens rarely though, but it's still annoying that it happens.

Overall for $17, this is a great buy. 6 hours worth of gameplay for the first run with new game + to carry over all the upgrades and with plenty of extras to unlock makes this game worthwhile. One of the best fps games this year along Metro Last Light and Bioshock Infinite.
