No Originality

I just purchased Ghosts and was looking forward to playing it. Before I continue, I will say I'm a 30 year game development veteran with over 25 published titles and I expect quite a lot in a AAA title such as this.

The opening scene on the space station blew me away - and not in a good way. Anyone seen the movie Gravity?? It's obvious the COD devs saw Gravity and thought "Hey, we should add something like this to our game!" And they not only added it, they COPIED pretty much the entire sequence from the movie. Bad things in a space station, escape, station destroyed, go to next station, bad things, station destroyed and enters atmosphere. So if you haven't seen Gravity, just re-watch the opening scenes in COD. COD added a few baddies to shoot but otherwise it's Gravity. Sure, people borrow ideas from each other in gaming, but this was too close for comfort....no originality.

And now they have a dog?? Wow, what a concept. One of the last games I made (Dead to Rights) used a dog that did pretty much what Ghosts does. The dog attacks and helps you. Gee....just like Dead to Rights... no originality.

Oh, and the graphics. Grass that's over 10 years old is a good start. People are used to vegetation actually looking like vegetation anymore. Trees look like trees, grass that looks like grass. But the mediocre spindly 2D textures for COD grass pretty much sucks. It's okay for a game 10 or more years ago but not now. Of course this is a shooter where the emphasis isn't on a pretty environment but when the environment is that noticeably bad, it becomes distracting from the real game play.

The game play --- again no real originality. Same old since COD 4 in my opinion.
