Besides some interesting gameplay, COD 3 is just another epic WW2 game that tends to lose your interest sometimes.

I'm definitely a big fan of the Call of Duty series, especially the PC versions. I guess that's why I was a little disappointed with the third instalment, because it only released on consoles and I was only able to purchase the PS2 version, since the new consoles are ridiculous in price. You get the feeling you have second rate than first, which takes away from the experience.

With Treyarch at the helm and focusing on the Normandy Breakout, Call of Duty 3 is somewhat different than the other games, in good and bad ways. There are some different things you can do in this game, such as drive a car, get into close combat with an enemy soldier and play as Canadians and Polish. The straight forward shooting with your men is the same as last year, which is a bad thing in my case. This same system that kept on improving in the previous games, remains the same, which tends let some of the levels drag and uninteresting. Unfortunately, some of the intensity this series is famous for, might be lost. This might have been different on the PC. Fortunately, the new creative elements that are in this game somewhat make up for the gameplay loss. The close quarters fighting is fun. Even setting explosives is enjoyable.

For the PS2, the graphics are well done and the characters move properly and the backgrounds are even better. Continuous explosions and smoke effects cause you squint sometimes. Still, so much better graphics on a WW2 shooter have been seen on the PS2.

There's one word to desribe the sound on this game. WOW! This game definitely had the best sound out of the series. Screams, shouts, explosions and bullets can be all heard at the same time, without causing damage to your brain. Top notch music adds to the superb sound, and also is propably the best out of the series. The intesity would be lifeless without this perfect sound.

Overall, Call of Duty 3 is a hit and miss, but worth checking out. It does have some great moments, mostly as Americans and Canadians. The British have pretty bland levels and the Polish only have two, but if you don't care about countries, than you won't have anything to complain about. I still believe this game should've been on where the series originated from, the PC. Next time, Infinity Ward should handle Call of Duty again.
