Technically sound, challenging racing and kick-ass crashes. What more could you ask for?

The multiplayer of this franchse debut is perhaps the most satisfying element. The superb crashes, the fast-paced gameplay and the better-than-average graphics (not so important when you're thundering along the interstate at 110 Km/h) all add up to disguise the short single-player and lack of car variety.

This first instalment also contains something which the rest of the series lacked: the save crashes feature. Although the majority of players tend not to use it, personally I found it a fun addition, rounding off the game nicely and letting me compare my pile-ups with those of my friends.

In all, then, a well-rounded party game which gives you the rush of racing through oncoming traffic without the added bother of actually breaking the law.
