Burai Fighter is fun, but not that fun.

N.B. Before I start, I have to say this review is not up to my new-found standard

Burai Fighter can be summed up in the one sentence- "Burai Fighter is fun, but not that fun." It tells you everything you need to know about the game. It's a sidescrolling shooter, obviously set in the future as you shoot lasers and missiles. As I only own the cartridge and not the box, I can't tell you the story but it's a game that doesn't need a story but it would make more sense if it did. You play as a warrior. You monotonously side scroll forward and take out all enemies that you meet. You have an inability to move other than sideways, forwards and backwards. You get pick-ups, such as missiles that fire the same way as your gun and a big missile that always fires forwards.

The game is a bit monotonous. You fight the same enemies again and again and they hardly ever vary. Sometimes levels look the same and they too are repetitive.

Burai Fighter is the perfect game to play every now and then or on the plane or to include when going on a long car journey, like Gradius and Contra but you couldn't really get addicted to it., due to it's monotony and difficulty.

The game is actually quite difficult at the boss stages, a lot like Max. Going through the levels is easy and you'll think you're ready for anything and then the boss destroys you in one shot. The difficulty levels are set under names of birds, like Albatross. It raised a half-smile.

There is a multiplayer mode, but I've never had the chance to play it and judging by the fact only 10 people on Gamespot own this, I won't be trying it for anytime soon. I also believe this is also a NES game and there was a sequal on GBC in Japan

There is 5 levels, but it only saves using passwords.

Graphics- 7/10
Not too bad. They get the job done.

Sound- 8/10
Tunes aren't too great, but the SFX are.

Gameplay- 7/10
A repetitive Contra clone.

Value- 7/10
The perfect pick-up-and-play game but not really addicting.

Pros-
- Pick-up-and-play
- good SFX
- Challenging, but this can also be a con
- You can find it dead cheap now!

Cons-
- Repetitive
- Only 5 levels
-Passwords
- No-One to play multiplayer with

Alternatives- Contra and Gradius

So, If you find this game cheap i.e. £2 buy it. but if you have to pay more than £5 for it, leave it.
