Bulletstorm is a prime example of everything that's wrong with the FPS genre today, but I'll be damned if it wasn't fun.

Way too many quick time events and on-screen prompts. I don't need to be told to press Q to leash every single drop pod, I don't need to be told where and when to crouch. I understood that spacebar lets me vault over low objects the first 12 times you told me.

It's poor game design. There's no obvious distinction between which objects are real and which aren't, so they compensate by pointing you towards things you can interact with.. they have to tell you "PRESS E TO KICK THIS BOX HERE THIS BOX HEY THIS BOX" because it's the only box you CAN kick, and if they didn't show you what to do you'd be running around for 20 minutes kicking everything until something happened. The PRESS RMB to zoom in on on-screen action is also another terrible modern day addition. Half Life was able to convey on-screen action without this kind of shameless hand-holding 14 years ago.

This doesn't detract from the shooting mechanics though, which are decent. There's a good variety of action and some really impressive set pieces. The distance visuals are gorgeous, but if you stop and think for too long you realize it's just a well-crafted lie. The beautiful environments are just well-drawn sky boxes, taunting you with more interesting locations than the one you are actually in.

I paid $5 for it on Steam, so the 5 hours I got out of it were well worth the money. If you're bored and looking for a quick escape it'll do the trick, but don't expect anything beyond the usual Modern Warfare drivel.
