Gears of War little brother

User Rating: 5.5 | Bulletstorm X360
Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter developed by People Can Fly. The same people that made the original Painkiller which is one of the best shooters of all time. So naturally I had to try this game out after playing Painkiller.

What I like in this game is the skillpoints system. It is basically a form of earning points to be use for buying ammo, upgrading weapons, and adding perks to your weapon. You will be rewarded more points for being more creative in disposing of enemies and disposing them is a lot of fun. You can just shoot at enemies like the regular shooters that inundate the game industry or you can kick them and perform a headshot thus earning more points. Kicking enemies will set off a slow motion event where the enemy will be flown into the air in slow motion for a few seconds to give you enough time to perform a headshot. You can use a device called Thumper which is worn by the character on the left hand which is use to pull enemies towards you so you can either kick them or just shoot them. There is an upgrade for this device which can slam enemies into the ground which kind of reminds me of God of War. You also can acquire more points by using the environment to your advantage like kicking bombs into a group of enemies or you can kick them into a spiked wall. You can also pull them onto an electrified gate with your Thumper.

Bulletstorm provide you with enough weapons to play with so you won't get bored using the same weapon plus you can be more creative in killing enemies. The game has an assault rifle which is okay but I do like the charge upgrade which will charge the weapon into a more powerful weapon in limited quantities. Good for taking out heavy armored enemies. The revolver which is my personal favorite. A powerful weapon good for one shot headshots. A sniper rifle for campers out there. The bullet is controlled by you after firing the gun to make it more difficult to perform a headshot. There are also a grenade launcher, a canon, and a weapon towards the end of the game that kills the enemy with one shot. There is also a machinegun turret that you can pick up from heavy armored enemies but you can only use it for a limited time which is a shame because it is so much fun to use. Of course, the game would have been a lot easier and this game is one of the easiest game I have ever played.

What I don't like about this game is the graphics are so 2005-2006 quality and this game came out in 2011. It runs on Unreal Engine 3 and the colors look like it has been in the laundromat too many times. I played the Xbox 360 version so maybe they had to turn down the settings on low since there are always a lot a activity going on at the same time and my Xbox 360 crashed once amd I was worried that it would break my system. This is one of those times when I think an Xbox 720 is truly needed. If you have a pc strong enough to play this on high settings then pc is the way to go plus it's more fun playing shooters with mouse and keyboard.

Also, the game is way too short. I forgot the exact time I finish the game but it is somewhere between 5-7 hours. I would have been upset if I had paid full price for this but I didn't so all is well.

Also, the skill level on this game is so low even a toddler can play this game. If you are an experienced gamer like me then this game might be an insult to you because the game feels like it caters to people that have never touched a game before.

In conclusion, Bulletstorm is n average game with innovative skillpoints system but this game is not made for the console version. This game should have come out when the next gen console came out. As it is, it is an okay game on Xbox 360 and pc version is probably the best version.
