[Classic Games Review] Welcome to my review for this epic WW2 game, Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30...

User Rating: 9.5 | Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 PC
Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 is by any mean the first person shooter game with the best story set in World War 2. The story and the characters will grow inside you in a degree that you will be surprised. Let´s start my review...

Story: Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is a first-person shooter video game created by Gearbox Software. The story here is simple, you will follow the story of the Baker's squad (502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment) through the invasion of France (D-Day). You will play as Sgt. Baker and you will try to make your squad survive the most dramatic battles in WW2. Sgt. Matt Baker: "I never asked to be squad leader, but I had no choice. Now I've got thirteen soldiers under my command. Thirteen men depending on me to make the right decisions and not get them killed. Thirteen families relying on me to bring their husbands and sons home. Thirteen... Thirteen is not a lucky number."

Right here you see how much deep the story is. You will care about almost every character in this game. I really enjoyed the narrations, they were well scripted and well acted. The story will have an high level of intensity since the beginning to the end, made with a great pacing. I really liked the emotional ride this game have, sometimes you will get real sad watching some of your favorite characters dying in some gruesome ways that you don´t expect, showing to the player the reality of war and the men that fight in it, with a great and violent/shocking way.

Graphics/Soundtrack/Sound Effects: Well, the graphics have aged. When it was released, other FPS tittles had better graphics, but the graphics and detail level in Brothers in Arms were still good at the time (2005) and were really "eye catchy". The graphics were damn good for the atmosphere and game tone, and I can´t forget that almost every level in this game was made with detailed real world locations and buildings. The development team made a real good job at making this feature. At the present time, this graphics are not that next gen, but when I play this game, the nostalgia is great. The sound track and the sound effects were and are really good.

Gameplay: This is an great example of what a tactical shooter should be. In most levels of Brothers in Arms, the player is in command of one or two separate 1-3 man teams, with the exception of several sections in which the player is not in command of any unit. You will command an Assault Team or an Fire Team and in some levels both. The tactics that the player will use are simple, suppressive fire and flanking maneuvers, some times rushing. This was very refreshing at the time. This tactics work very well, but sometimes the A.I was not that responsive and the final results were not that great. But that almost didn´t happened.

In the end, Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 is an epic game with a great story, nice graphics and an great gameplay element. This game is a pure classic. It totally deserves an 9.0 out of 10. Thanks for reading my review.
