Fun new gameplay mechanics? Absolutely!! Good graphics or good story? Unfortunately no

User Rating: 7 | Brink X360
Brink truly offers a new unique style of gameplay for the shooter genre. But even with these great gameplay mechanics, Brink falls short of greatness.

Gameplay: 9.0- Brink is a team/objective based shooter with free running abilities. There is always a main objective and some side objectives. Whats really intriguing is that your team's objective could be to blow of a barricade thats in your teams way, while your opponents (which can be both AI and human) objective would be to stop you from blowing up the door. Its truly fascinating and really enjoyable to try and complete these objectives.

Graphics: 6.5- The game's graphics have a lot to be desired. The graphics in cutscenes are about the average game graphics, but when your playing the game the graphics can really be ugly. This is mostly when your looking at people, the colors just seem to blur together and be really ugly. This is a huge bummer because a cool thing about Brink is customization. You have hundreds of different styles of clothing to chose from to make your character look awesome!! But with the terrible in-game graphics no one is going to see how cool he looks.

Story: 6.0- Lets get one thing clear, Brink has pretty much no story!!!! The only "story" there is is when you chose between joining the resistance or the security forces. Other than that no story!! At the beginning of each level your boss will simply tell you your objective and then there will be a cutscene of random unimportant soldiers arguing about the war. You can learn about the world of Brink though by unlocking and listening to audio logs from both sides of the war. It makes you think about which side you agree with when you listen to both sides view on an issue. I listened to every audio log and I still can't "pick" a side. But thats just about the world itself. The fact remains there is no real story.

Final Verdict: 7.0- Brink has a lot of ambition. It offers new gameplay mechanics that make it very enjoyable to play with replay value. But the poor graphics and lack of story drag the game to far and distract you from what makes Brink great. You should definitely give Brink a chance, but it will be difficult not to be distracted by the negatives.
