Engrossing, solid experience with plenty of quality DLC.

Pros: incredible selection of weapons with varied abilities; four distinct character classes that are each fun to play; amazing, but not run-of-the-mill graphics; four great DLC adventures; great replay value; nice sense of humor.

Cons: enemy variety in non-DLC gets old quickly; lack of co-op gamers; end-game content way too easy.

I initally tried Borderlands when it first appeared a few years ago. Not being a co-op or online gamer (being a working professional makes gaming limited to ~10 hours per week), I didn't find much to like about the game.

On the eve of the Borderlands 2 release, I decided to revisit the original game and its DLC packs. And boy, was I wrong so many years ago. Borderlands provided an incredible experience, even for the solo player.

Even for the solo player, I found only a few missions to be challenging, but that was only until I gained one or two levels. By the end of the game i was around level 32 (Siren), and I found that my character was so over-leveled that the final boss was a joke. But the variety of weapons and missions kept me coming back for more.

The DLC is where the game really shines. Fully encompassing worlds that displayed their own unique elements and trademark humor to finish each adventure. Other developers should take notes on Gearbox's success with DLC.
