A fun and interesting FPS with a varied loot filled experience.

I play mostly FPS games. I complain alot about the lack of quality fps games anymore, and was pleasantly surprised by this game. Borderlands is a treasure trove of originality coupled with an RPG style narrative. Ok, you play as a Vault hunter. One of a group of hunters who are ... hunting a vault dun dun dun daaaa! Real easy! Well along the way you have a variety of diferent quests and locations to explore all while seeing alot of different places and hearing lots of humorous stuf. Scooter is probably the funniest character in the game, you will never hear more backwater grammar anywhere else. The game, at this point has 4 expansion packs which i have played several of and are new takes on the whole experience. Well back to the game, overall the fps gameplay is generic and straight forward with a special action that each player is able to use. The game itself is very approachable every combat is intense, though they all can get repetative and if you are injured in combat, usually a health item is dropped to recover health. The narrative of the game, the vault, is buried in a sea of side quests which are both fun and in essence required to move on. Your level determines your ability to fight, higher level enemies are much harder to kill if you are a lower level and you will take higher damage also. As you complete quests and kill enemies you gain experience and you level up, each level allows you to upgrade specific abilities which can increase your damage or add special stuff to your special skill. Each character has a different skill, Mordecai has bloodwing his bird and I used him on my first play through. The others have different skills like a turret, phasing and increased melee. The game is long, very long, its a worthwhile investment and you should buy the game of the year edition for the expansions. Now for the negatives. First the expansions are not implemented properly, you have to use the teleporters to even access the expansions, like anyone would know that at first. Second, the enemies attack patterns can be too predicable at times, granted AI is a finnicky item and requires balance but alot of the times they are easy to predict and beat. Boss fights are interesting and at times confusing, some are great, while others are interesting. One boss has a super low level but has a low power pistol that explodes and literally devours your shields and health in like 3 hits while your weapons while more powerful do not do even close to that damage and when you get that weapon and fight powerful baddies dont do even close to the damage he did to you so its off to the selling block. Other issues, storage containers for your equipment were not added till the moxie expansion which is a shame because I had plenty of weapons and equipment that i didnt want to sell but had no choice because of space and cost. Another issue is the meter you have when you are fighting for your life when you are near death, its a ridiculous add on that while good, most times when you go down all baddies run a way and you are stuck and die basically while the game respawns you as you were when dead even with less ammo, and your enemies are back at full health even if you had a boss at almost 0 health. Other than these issues the game is fun and a really indepth experience.
