A very forgettable DLC

User Rating: 4 | Borderlands 3: Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot XONE

I think forgettable is really a generous word here when describing this DLC, which essentially just reskins a lot of whatever we have already seen in BL 2 and 3, and calls it something new. What this really is is a mod someone could have put out for free but instead it was repackaged as DLC and here I am reviewing it.

The story is pretty bland with Moxxi, a great character who is criminally underused here, trying to break into Handsome Jack's casino vault only to find out the people still locked in it have gone feral and breaking into the vault isn't gonna be so simple. I say that it's bland because it doesn't explore that side of the DLC, what would these characters be like having been totally shut off from the outside world and resorting to the worst kind of behaviour to survive. Instead, A bulk of the story focuses on this awful Handsome Jack body double that takes up all the screen time that should have gone to Moxxi.

I really wish we could have seen Moxxi given more depth as a character here and show off how much of a boss she is by taking part in the heist rather than just largely providing voiceovers and rarely being featured outside of cutscenes. She should have been the front and centre of this DLC as she (and your character) explore this Mad-Max style casino but sadly she isn't.

And another part that is painfully not explored is that kind of aspect of tribal groups in this casino. Instead, It's just this one laughable mobster parody boss that controls it all and that doesn't really make much sense. Why not have each area of the casino belong to a different group and have the plot revolve around not just getting into the vault but dealing with the various groups preventing you from doing so? It would have made for such a better piece of DLC.

No, Instead we got an incredibly linear DLC that offers little in terms of exploration and, as mentioned above, just reskins stuff we have already seen before. It offers virtually no challenge to any players at a proper level and if not for the annoying collectables scattered throughout the map, Little in terms of total hours required to play in order to beat it.

Overall: 4/10
I expected so much more from Handsome Jackpot and was incredibly let down with what I was given. It's a short, forgettable experience that really shouldn't be bothered with unless you are a completionist going for every achievement.
