The best Bomberman game made to date.

User Rating: 8.5 | Bomberman Hero: Milian Oujo o Sukue! N64
Bomberman Hero was the only Bomberman game that I actually enjoyed (and the only one I ended up purchasing). Unlike the previous installments, this game is a true platformer. Bomberman can now jump (a vast improvement over the torturous non-jumping of other games in the series). In addition, he can use a snowboard, ride on a large rabbit-thing (I don't even know), use a jetpack, and more. This greatly adds to the game play. It's not too different from the Bomberman series as a whole, as the base of the game is still planting and throwing bombs at enemies and obstacles (and what's more fun than throwing bombs around?). All in all, it makes a very fun game to play, though it can get a bit repetitive at times.

The one thing I've always loved about this game was the soundtrack; the music in this game is perfectly ambient but also energetic at the same time, and it just fits perfectly. It's very memorable. Graphically, it's not much of an improvement over Bomberman 64, maybe a few textures are better, but the best improvement is just the level design. There are a lot of levels in Bomberman Hero, and they are all unique and entertaining. Also, there are a lot more bosses in this game, and it adds to the challenge.

The only problem with Bomberman Hero is the story. It's very shallow, and so is the game in the larger scheme of things. You'll get bored of it after some time, and it doesn't inspire adventuring at all like Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie (it doesn't use a hub system).

Overall, Bomberman Hero is a good platformer, and the fact that you're a spaceman throwing bombs around makes it that much better, but it doesn't offer nearly as much of an engaging experience as other 3D platforming adventures.
