Groundbreaking Game from Gust

User Rating: 10 | Blue Reflection PC

Gust is an amazing game company that has some hidden gems being released regularly now. After I started playing their Atelier Series games back in early 2017 and was blown away by the effort that such a small game company puts in their games. I was vacationing in Japan back in early 2017 and saw and advertisement for Blue Reflection made by Gust. I was blown away by the music, the artwork, and the gameplay I saw. I never thought the game would head to the west, and later in the year it did. The story itself is top notch, the main character Hinako Shirai is a strong main character who struggles to overcome the depression that she feels from not being able to do Ballet anymore. The story starts with her meeting up with two other girls Lime and Yuzuki. They help Hinako become a Reflector with them to stop the Giant Sephitoth from attacking their School. These monsters feed off the emotions of the students. Mel Kishida does the artwork for this game and it is very well done. The music done by Hayato Asano is unforgettable, easily some of the best video game music I have ever heard. One of the highlights of this game is that the leveling up mechanic is based off of completing parts of the game as opposed to EXP. The main benefit of this is that you get to play the game how you like to; you can spend as much time fighting enemies as you want. It is a non-grindy JRPG game, what a novel idea. They only criticism I have for the game is that it is not very difficult. You definitely want to play the game on the hardest difficulty. I have bought this game in the US for the PS4 and PC; and bought it in Japan for the PSVita for the OST. It is my favorite game for the PS4. I would recommend this game for anyone who loves JRPG or a magical girl theme game.
