A game which has great RPG mechanics but is spoilt by annoying characters and a childish feel.

Blue dragon is a turned based RPG which starts of when the 'metal shark' attacks your village as it does every year- but then we discover 'Shu' the main character and his freinds are going to try and stop it, it ends up he's only a small kid and he fails to damage the shark but they do get taken out to a strange mysterious cave..

It then turns out that this creepy purple old man wants to experiment on you and gives you 'dragons' which improve how powerful you are.
All 3 of your characters then gain this ability to have their dragons fight beside them- all the time.
This is often annoying- from that point on in the game you never acctually physically attack anything yourself, your dragon does everything for you in fights, and great, it even uses the same actions every single time depending on what skill or magic you use.
This definetely took a lot out of the game for me- it feels like your characters aren't growing stronger at all- just your dragons.

The story continues and is constantly flooded with childish enemies such as the 'snake poo' a snake which looks like a dog turd.
There's also the rare 'golden snake poo' which is a golden snake which looks like a turd..
The characters also annoyed me- they were all kids which were immature and even there voices annoyed me.

However- there are some good RPG mechanics throughout the game- as you level up with your dragons you unlocked more 'classes' including assassin, guardian, white mage, black mage etc.. there's around 9 different classes.
You choose 1 class (which can be changed any time out of battle) and then you level up the class giving you the ability to learn their skills of by heart.
As in final fantasy 5- you can make some good combinations- for example, you can have a white mage with the defensive skills of a guardian- or a swordsman who also has the skills of an assassin- it's up to you!

But grind isn't a strong point in blue dragon- there isn't loads of it but the main area to train really is the world map, the dullest location on the game.
Despite some good solid anime style graphics in towns and outposts the world map puts the game to shame visually- it uses dull colours and it made me think of it as a last gen game.

I do reccomend blue dragon to younger RPG fans- but stay away as the great RPG mechanics don't make up for the annoying characters and whole childishness about the game,
In the end blue dragon should have had a more solid storyline and more mature characters.
