I haven't played a fighting game that made me enjoy it for what it was instead of having it be a desperation to learn techniques to beat at least the first 5 stages of arcade mode without getting pissed off. Starting out on the cruddy ps1, it was the first game where transforming into animals was the ish. It hasn't changed much but it ain't a bad deal.

Story

Ripped off xmen so badly. Certain humans are called zoanthromorphs who can turn into various animals. Because of this, society looks down upon them. Yugo decides to destroy Tylon for the good of ZA's and then starts an organization bent on trying to create peace between both factions....only to go on a quest to destroy tattoos and then enter a tournament set up a queer and his fat body gaurd. Then he goes to destroy the ryoho dragon..or some ish. The first 2 games make sense but 3 and 4...no. Wait this is PF isn't it? Story is a kingdom sets up a tournament to prove their military is the strongest while they perform experiments to "create peace". Excuse me what? Aren't experiments the reason people HATED Tylon? Obviously because it was KILLING people!?
I swear the japanese don't make a lick of sense with their storylines.

Gameplay

It's combo crazy and you can turn into beasts. Thats not the game in a nutshell but if you read many reviews, they will run on long speeches about how the best system makes this game stand out, despite DBZ doing that for a good while now. The system hasn't changed much from the first game (and im just cool with that, because the first game owned) what is different is that some characters moves have changed and now you have super attacks (the bane of fighting games everywhere) since this game is easier than most other fighters, pulling a super isn't pure insanity like Guile's Somersualt super. All you need to be in is beast mode. All the characters special attacks are pulled off in the same fashion as in Smash Bros. Meaning doing the same command does different moves for all characters. This includes super attacks. The problem is that some character moves are completely useless "Green Charge" moves that do squat, and EVERYONE seemingly has them. You might also notice that everyone says that the cube controller is not suited for fighting games yet this game works perfectly TO AN EXTENT! I can do down left moves with the stick effortlessly but can only do both down left/right moves with the Dpad. Switching from both styles isn't bad but I prefer using the stick more, so it's a slight hassle. The AI is another deal. It can change from stupid to Bruce Lee in a matter of two friggin stages. Though it's nowhere near capcom's batspit insane AI or SNK's for that matter, it's still pretty annoying. Training mode has some neat features that don't last and you have the occasional time attack and survival modes along with Cheats that do more than help you get characters and stages. It ups the value and adds for even more challenging games or wimpier ones depending if you suck or not. Since it's all to be unlocked, you're in for a ride.

Music

Sucks

Artwork.

The anime looks like ass work. Shina (the sexiest character in the whole series) looks like a friggin man in the animated scenes. Not to mention it makes all of them look horribly generic compared to their 3d models which are very well done (if you catch my drift hehe) Shina looks awesome....very....VERY awesome. Sure Alice has a fat ass too but w/e.

Replay Value

Depends. IF you're playing to kill some time, it's for you. It doesn't have many unlockables if you're god and beat the ever loving spit out of it 16 times. Most are just really cheats and the 4 characters aren't worth the effort, nor the 3 stages. The cheats alter the style of the game and make it more or less skill based and could change the goals of the game, but lets get real. This is a fighting game, and without something like Soul Calibur 2's Weapon Master mode, it's not gonna last you long depending on your love for the genre/franchise. They did put a career mode in BR4 though, so go there for your troubles.

Overall

Since BR eats SF and every other fighter for breakfast....*goes plays some more*
