Good old hockey game

User Rating: 8 | Blades of Steel NES
Blades of steel is one of the oldest hockey games for NES alongside with NES-ice hockey. The game is basic hockey with three difficult levels (junior, college and pro) and 8 teams. The only difference between teams, which are NY, Chicago, LA, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver and Minnesota is their jerseys colour.

There are two gameplay choices: a single match with one or two players and tournament with eight teams. The controls are pretty simple: a shoots and b passes. When moving you control your flashing player and goaltender simultaneously which can be pretty hard sometimes. There's a moving arrow on goal-line which indicates where the puck will go when shot. However, since cpu goalies always follow the arrow you can score easily by just simply passing the puck to goal when they're out of way.

Checking is done by simply touching opponent, and if both players charge towards each other a fight begins. B hits and A blocks and you can aim with d-pad to punch/block head or stomach. The funny part is that the loser goes to penalty-box, so the winner team of fight gets a brief power-play. Otherwise there are no penalties. The only rules in game are icing and penalty shot, where the shooter has to aim in one of nine possible directions (right-up, straight-up, left-up, R-middle, S-middle, L-middle, R-down, S-down or L-down) and right after the shot goaltender has to move in same direction.

The game is simple and fun to play, especially with two players and you don't even have to know the rules of hockey to play it.
