For $20, it's not too expensive, and there is definitely fun to be had in this set. And remember to get Desert Combat!

User Rating: 7.7 | Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection PC
Gameplay- Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam’s gameplay is very straightforward (and Battlefield 2 is the same way for that matter). Each side starts out with a few bases, and the objective is to capture and hold all of your opponent’s bases. Each team also starts out with a number of points (between 350 and 600 depending on if your team has any advantages such as starts out with more bases, and the some maps just have more points than others). When your point count reaches zero, you lose, and there are two ways to reduce your opponent’s points: kill enemy opponents, and control more bases than the other team. Also, each time you spawn you can choose from 5 different weapon sets in BF1942 and 10 sets in BF Vietnam. The weapons sets are alright, but some of them seem a bit underpowered in comparison to other ones. The gameplay is mostly solid but some maps seem off balance, and in Vietnam there is a problem with running over people with, but overall there aren’t too many glitches. It is notable that the AI you will face is definitely not the brightest, and they will do some very stupid things. I never played this game online, so I don’t know how many people are online or anything like that, but I still had an enjoyable time playing single player and playing with the vehicles.

Graphics-The graphics are a bit dated, just like the game, but they still perform solidly. On BF Vietnam there is a WWII mod that is included with the game, and it allows you to play 3 of the maps from BF1942 with BF Vietnam’s graphics engine.

Sound-I still frequently run into problems with the sound, but it’s just while I’m playing in a map. I don’t really know what is going on, and this problem occurs even when I’m playing the Desert Combat mod. But the background music is pretty cool, and when the sound works in the maps, it’s okay too.

Value-This game is $20, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could find it for even less, so if you’ve never played a Battlefield game, this isn’t a bad place to start. It also has significantly lower system requirements than Battlefield 2, which may be of importance to some people out there. And get the Desert Combat mod (see below).

Tilt-I had fun with this game, and for the price this is a great time to pick up this 8 disc set (yes I said 8 discs), but the game may start to seem repetitive after awhile. And if you get this game, there is one thing that you must do: get the Desert Combat mod; it is fantastic and almost worth the price of the game itself. Desert Combat is very similar to Battlefield 2 except that it uses BF 1942 graphics, and it is entirely free, so do yourself a huge favor a go get the Desert Combat mod (it’s around 500-600 mb.).
