The epic music... The artful landscapes... and the tin can voices. What's not to love?
I know what you're thinking- everything aforementioned would therefore be wasted on a game with horrible gameplay. No, that's not right. Baten Kaitos has an excellent gameplay mechanic based on cards, surprisingly enough. The story is where the game fails, as each character is guided by one emotion, no more or less. The script is humorous, as it has the characters constantly in retarded arguments over nothing. "Blahblahblah let's keep doing whatever blahblahblah" gets on my nerves, and you'll find that if you like a character, it'll be his/her prowess in combat, not charm or wit.
Finally, the last problem is the voice acting. The voices, thankfully, can be turned off for chatter, but will always remain in battle. Geez, who says "Aqua burst!" 9 times in a row? Purely annoying.
That having been said, the game is a blast to play. Definetly buy it if you've got a 'cube or a Wii.
