User Rating: 7.5 | Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance GC
In 2002, Interplay released a very popular RPG for the PS2 called "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance". The game was so popular, that it would spawn Xbox and GameCube ports of it. This review is in regards to the GameCube version of the game.

Graphically, the game is excellent. There are some nice effects, such as the leaves on the trees rustling through the wind and the fires burning softly. The character animations are superb, with actual body language. Soundwise, the game is not too shabby. There is some very epic music being played during your adventure. Also, the voice-acting select is nothing less of amazing.

On the control side, it is very suitible for it's own genre. There's a jump button, but it is rarely used, with the lone exception of the various puzzles that require the feature. On a side note, the camera can be easily rotated, but might make your sense of direction a little bit nausiating at times.

Gameplaywise, it is very good. On occasion, there will be a moderate amount of slowdown, especially when there are a ton of dead bodies of very large monsters on screen at once. Also, the game is actually not a level grind at all, as monsters don't respawn at any given moment, forcing the gamer to use tactics to defeat his/her enemies.

Overall, this is a very good role-playing game for the GameCube. This will make an excellent purchase for hardcore RPG fans or anyone looking into a very different approach to the genre.
