While the game appears to be on the right track, way to many problems haunt this game

User Rating: 5 | Backyard Baseball GC
The Backyard kids are back, this time on GC. However this game doesnt live up to the standards on previous backyard baseball games. At first it seems like a great game, but after a few hours you will realize what is wrong with the game. While the hitting mechanics are very well done, the game faulters in many other catagories

Hitting: 9/10 Hitting has the perfect degree of difficulty, while it isnt very hard to hit a line drive, many HR swings turn into popups. The best part of the game

Pitching 7/10 Pitching is the same as usual. The only problem is that the pitch zone is the same for every pitcher. However being able to move the location between selecting the spot and throwing the ball can really help

Running 4/10 Running has many problems in this game. While everybody gets a lot closer in speed, many problems with this game happen on the basepaths. They added leadoffs to the game, but that creates problems. Sometimes the CPU (even on hard) will take a leadoff in a crucial situation that is a certain pickoff. You also can take the 2nd largest leadoff and you never get out on a pickoff. Then with the same leadoff even Mikey Thomas steals 2nd with ease. 3rd base is more of a challenge, but it still can easily be done with an 8 or greater in speed.

Fielding 1/10 The fielding in the game make it almost unplayable. The CPU responds immidietly on line drives, many times the pitcher catches line drives about 5 feet away from the mound. Its the same with the other positions. Infielders can catch about any line drive, and many times fielders are catching balls in their back (and feet) while running backwards. On a dive your player will catch a ball at his feet. Horrible fielding. Also the throws are never off target, and players will catch a hard throw from 5 feet away.

Fields 3/10 The Fields in the game are not well designed. For one only Steele Stadium returns from the original stadiums. Almost every field is too small, balls in the power ally turn into singles/doubles instead of doubles/triples. Also the stadium "Junkyard" is way to big. If the ball gets to the fence its at least a triple, and usually an inside the park HR. unfortunately their is no in between, Junkyard is about 100 feet bigger than any stadium in the game

This game does not live up to the standards of Backyard Sports the Computer games set.
