Another winner in the Assassins creed franchise

User Rating: 9 | Assassin's Creed Valhalla PS4

Like all Assassin’s Creed games, I was very excited for the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, especially due to the fact that it was dealing with Vikings. Assassin’s Creed is always a day 1 purchase for me and even though the game has some rough glitches here and there it never stopped my enjoyment of exploring the world and solving the puzzles.

Story: 8/10

The story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla feels like a very epic tale. While starting in Norway and settling in England, the people you meet there all while building up your own clan, youll see Eivor become stronger and more important to this new world. While on the surface they game may not seem too related to the previous assassin’s creed games, events change closer to the ending that link back not only to the brotherhood but to Norse mythology itself.

Score: 9.5/10

The music here feels great. Often times I want to stop and listen to the music playing. The composers also did an amazing job in giving so much of the music a Viking-like vibe.

Characters/Character Development: 9/10

Unlike previous games, certain characters outside of your Settlement are usually only seen in the region you help form an alliance with. Some of the more major characters from these regions will show up again in later parts of the game and you do become somewhat attached to them, but sometimes you’ll see a character from earlier in the game and think to yourself, ‘who was that again?’ Regardless, the characters that are focused on like Sigurd and Dag do play a good role and you can see how these characters change throughout the game.

Graphics: 9.5/10

Since I played this game on the Ps4 I didn’t notice too much of a graphical difference between Valhalla and other AAA games that came out in 2020, but looking around at the landscape of the world truly brings you and offers stunning views when up high.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

One of my favorite features about Valhalla is the limited number of weapons and armor that you get. In previous games, almost every enemy you killed would give you some sort of equippable item that would do nothing but clog up your inventory. Weapons and armor are now a rarer find and can be upgraded throughout the whole game. So, if there is a weapon you really like you can use it for the rest of the game. These weapons can also be switched out right away so if a long heavy weapon isn’t working out for you, you can switch to a short quick one without a problem.

Difficulty: 4/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest)

The difficulty here works well by letting you know when something is more than likely too advanced for you. The game gives you a Power level that increases as you gain more and more skills. By using this, you can see if an enemy is too strong and someone you likely wont beat now but can always come back to later.

Fun: 9.5/10

As I play through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla I find myself truly enjoying the format that the game has been put into. Having a Settlement that you go back to and upgrade feels like a great sense of belonging with the characters that live there. Travelling from area to area and completing a series of missions to recruit allies also works extremely well for the series and can prevent any portion of the game from feeling like it is lagging. This is definitely a step in the right direction for assassin’s creed and open world games in general.
