First off, WTF Ubisoft!
So if paying full price for a game that hasn't been finished yet wasn't enough for you, there's more!
Let me begin by telling you how ultimately unimpressed I was with this latest edition of AC.
1. The graphics
Graphics are "refined a bit more than the last generation" looking in game, not "Next Generation" - and yes the scenery/cut scenes look good.... I know. I got all excited to see the first the cut scene look gorgeous only to find out that everything went back to the "saturated blur" in game. The sprite modeling could do sooo much better.
(running a pretty decent CPU/GPU (GTX980) on ULTRA settings w/ >50FPS)
2. Game play
Play the first few "chapters" of this game and it wont take you more than 10 minutes to realize Ubisoft completely and utterly wants to take your money regardless of the state of the product they're selling to you. I got this on launch and a few patches later I am unimpressed to put it lightly. Everyone "Hyped" the graphics as usual and although at times this game looks amazing, I couldn't get past all of these glitches. We got books floating in mid-air, and we got teleporting villains, and quests that are unachievable due to these obvious problems. Collision between models is inconsistent at best.
Seriously, how is it possible that Ubisoft never played their own game and realized it wasn't finished???!!!!???
"We're talking 1:30 seconds in to the game, when your character fights a teleporting, horribly rendered, robot. "
Considering that I am completely basing this review off of Black Flag, which I will admit I played late (probably patched a million times over by the time I played it.) I am taken back by the steps backwards this game takes.
New Engine = Problems. I get that, then why not wait a few months and polish it up? Why let everyone play your half finished game and rate it as crap, lose sales and your reputation?
3. Conclusion
At the end of the day, I really like Ubisoft, I think they make good games. I Just want them to make sure its done when you want me to pay for it. Otherwise release it as an early access (Alpha/Beta) game that it is, and don't charge an effing PREMIUM for it.
REALLY $69.99 CANADIAN?!? OH WAIT!!! $99.99 if you want ALL the features cuz you know, you got pay more if you want to play the "whole" game...
Anyone who considers themselves AC fans should be weary until its patched thoroughly. eventually this game will be playing like it is supposed to... JUST NOT YET.
