Lost in the Mirage

User Rating: 4 | Assassin's Creed Mirage PS5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage' had the potential to dive deep into the rich 9th-century Baghdad setting, but instead, it seems like they swapped compelling character development for a bunch of snooze-worthy in-game Wikipedia snippets. The main plot is starved of freshness, repeating the tired 'seek and destroy' missions against the same old Order of the Ancients. The characters feel as flat as cardboard, with hardly any emotional arc to follow.

The skill tree is as bland as stale bread, offering nothing to spice up the gameplay. And while you're stuck in the monotonous loop of clue-hunting and target-eliminating, the game throws a bunch of historical trivia at you, as if reading dry facts can make up for the lack of engaging content.

The character of Basim had a glimmer of intrigue, but that quickly got overshadowed by the overwhelming blandness of the rest of the game. It's a shame that a franchise known for blending historical intrigue with adrenaline-pumping action fumbled the ball this hard. 'Mirage' feels less like a game and more like a tedious history lecture with a side of uninspired assassination missions.
